New Zealand take the first raceJune 1, 2007 The Louis Vuitton Cup finals opened with thrilling match today as the two teams were never more than 12 seconds apart throughout the course. Emirates Team New Zealand were 11 seconds up at the 1st Windward leg but Luna Rossa Challenge narrowed the gap to 9 seconds by the 1st Leeward leg. It was a very close finish with the Italians gaining ground on the Kiwis, but Emirates TNZ held out to win the first race of the series by a narrow 8 seconds. Racing will continue tomorrow with the second race of the final series. |
