It's almost over for the Spanish and Americans

May 19, 2007

Both teams lost their matches today, putting them in the uncomfortable position of needing to win all 4 remaining races in order to qualify for the Louis Vuitton Cup finals.

Desafío Español 2007 looked to be in with a chance as they lead Emirates Team New Zealand early on, but the Kiwis caught them up and pulled ahead, then extended their lead to win by 1 minute 49 seconds.

BMW Oracle Racing never looked like winning their race as they were penalised going into the start and lost ground to Luna Rossa Challenge in each of the 4 legs.

It's very much looking like there will be a NZ-Italy final, but with both teams on form it's anyone's guess as to which team will get to challenge Alinghi for the 32nd America's Cup.
