Brilliant catch-up by BMW Oracle RacingMay 15, 2007 In weather that was much more normal than yesterday's challenging conditions, Luna Rossa Challenge and Emirates Team New Zealand picked up early leads in their matches and both teams were leading their races by about one minute on the 1st Windward leg. Emirates Team New Zealand continued to lead Desafío Español 2007 by a comfortable margin throughout the match, easily defeating the Spaniards to put them 2-0 up in the first-to-five series. But the Italians had much more difficulty holding their early lead as BMW Oracle Racing went into overdrive and continued gaining ground through the race. The finish was intense and very close, with the Americans overtaking Luna Rossa on the final leg and sailing in to win the race by just 13 seconds. Luna Rossa Challenge and BMW Oracle Racing now have 1 point each in their best-of-nine series. |
