 Racing preview, Tuesday 08.05.2007May 8, 2007 Victory Challenge and Desafío Español 2007 both have important matches today as they're fighting for the last free spot in the semi finals. Victory Challenge have a life or death match against Emirates Team New Zealand and Desafío Español 2007 are up against the toprunners BMW Oracle Racing.
Victory Challenge are hoping for VictoryMay 8, 2007 The Swedes need to win their match agains Emirates Team New Zealand today if they are to have any hope of advancing to the semi final round of the Louis Vuitton Cup. But they're never beaten the Kiwis before and even if they do, they still wont advance if their rivals Desafío Español 2007 win their match against BMW Oracle Racing. Ian Weighell of of Victory Challenge says before the race, "It's a big hill to climb. Sadly we have to rely on them [Desafío] not winning and us doing something we've never done before - which is beating New Zealand. But the conditions are suiting us a bit more and at some point we are going to turn over a big team and we're looking forward to [today] " If Victory Challenge are to turn over a big team then they have to do it today if they wish to remain in the challenge for the 32nd America's Cup. Desafío Español sail into the semi finalsMay 8, 2007 They lost their match against BMW Oracle Racing today by 55 seconds but the Spanish team are assured of a place in the semi finals as the 5th placed team Victory Challenge lost to Emirates Team New Zealand. Tomorrow will hold the last Flight of Round Robin 2, and although the semifinalists have already been decided there is only 1 point difference between the two top teams and they just happen to be scheduled to race each other in Flight 11 tomorrow. The winner of that match will choose their opponents for the semi final races. |
