More to come... ![]() It's time for the big raceJuly 3, 2007 Luckily the wind is much better today so there's not much chance of another cancellation. The boats are out on the water and are ready to go. Lack of wind postpones the all-important raceJuly 1, 2007 In a bit of an anti-climax, today's cup decider has been postponed due to insufficient sustained wind. It's now planned for Alinghi and Emirates Team New Zealand to compete on tuesday. It's all or nothing for NZ todayJuly 1, 2007 With the 7th match about to start, Alinghi are on the verge of winning the America's Cup. Even if Team New Zealand can squeeze out a win today, the odds of winning the Cup are stacked against them. What next week might bring is irrelevant now - everything hinges on today's race. Let the race begin! Switzerland 4 : New Zealand 2June 30, 2007 Alinghi won again today, but the match was not a walkover by any means. The two teams crossed the start line together but it was Emirates Team New Zealand that reached the first mark ahead. The Kiwis maintained quite a comfortable lead until the middle of the second upwind leg when some good tacks by the Swiss leveraged them into a leading position. Team NZ fought back downwind and caught up a lot of ground, but not enough to win the match - SUI 100 sailed over the finish line 28 seconds before NZL 92. The odds of winning the 32nd America's Cup are now overwhelmingly in Alinghi's favour. They're just one win away from being the first European team to successfully defend the Auld Mug. The Spaniards are with the Swiss in hoping that Alinghi triumph - Valencians have invested heavily in accommodating the Americas Cup Competition and they're hoping for a good payoff for some years to come. Alinghi win the 5th race - Pressure builds for the KiwisJune 29, 2007 Emirates Team New Zealand were leading up the first run and looking confident when they burst a spinnaker shortly after passing the first mark. Meanwhile Alinghi converted their deficit into a strong lead, one which prooved to be too much for the Kiwis to claw back. The pressure is on. Alinghi are just two wins away from championing the 32nd Americas Cup. ETNZ are running out of time to vindicate themselves - they must surely win tomorrow's match if they are to stay in with a chance. Jury dismiss yesterday's protestJune 28, 2007 The America's Cup Jury have dismissed the protest lodged by Emirates Team New Zealand yesterday. The protest was made after viewing video footage of Alinghi sending a man up the mast when lowering the mainsail during a measurement committee test - indicating a possible breach of Americas Cup Class Rule #31.6. The Jury dismissed the protest but noted that the Measurement Committee have the power to ensure compliance with ACC Rules. |
